1970s–2000s
Talc-based body powders are marketed for daily feminine hygiene. Internal testing and outside studies raise questions about asbestos contamination and ovarian cancer risk.
2016
Federal cases are consolidated in MDL 2738 (District of New Jersey). Large state-court verdicts follow in Missouri and California.
2020
Talc-based baby powder is withdrawn from the U.S. and Canadian markets, replaced by a cornstarch formula.
2021–present
The manufacturer's subsidiaries pursue bankruptcy-based settlement structures; courts reject several. Litigation continues with new claimants still being screened.
